Luis Pablo Martínez

Luis Pablo Martínez has advanced degrees in Geography and History, Medieval and Modern History, and Mediation and Heritage Management in Europe. He is Inspector of cultural heritage (movable properties) of the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage of the Valencian regional government (Generalitat Valenciana) attached to the Directorate of Culture in Alicante, Spain. Martínez coordinated the nomination dossier of the the joint candidate of the Council of Wise Men of the Huerta de Murcia and the Tribunal of Waters of the Vega of Valencia to the inscription on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, selected for inclusion in UNESCO’s Register of best safeguarding practices. He has published numerous papers on Valencian history and cultural heritage, with the study of historical irrigation one of his main lines of research. He has published papers on the Andalusi origin of the historic huertas of Valencia and Elche as well as on the heritage value of the traditional irrigation systems and its global significance as a cultural bridge between the Old and New Worlds.
