The impact of climate variability on water resources will, in part be determined by the human activity and response due to water availability and climatic change. An important component of this research effort is the link between traditional acequia hydrology and socio-cultural institutions.
Strategic Objectives:
- Acequia hydrology strategic objective: Characterize acequia system flow distribution and hydrological interactions between surface water and ground water flow in two different acequia systems that serve as tributaries to the Rio Grande.
- Acequia Socio-cultural strategic objective: Document the ancient customs and traditions of acequia systems in two tributaries of the Rio Grande during times of climate variability and effects on human adaptation.
